Puri – June 30, (OT Webdesk): The sacred city of Puri witnessed a spiritual outpouring on Monday as lakhs of devotees gathered for Adapa Darshan, seeking blessings from Lord Jagannath at the Adapa Mandap inside the historic Gundicha Temple.
Following the completion of the morning Nitikanti rituals, the doors to the deity’s temporary abode were opened, marking the commencement of this highly revered ritual that is central to the annual Rath Yatra festivities. Pilgrims entered the temple through the Singhadwar and exited via the Nakachana Gate under tight security and crowd control arrangements laid out by the Puri Police.
Sunday’s Adapa Pahandi procession, which ceremoniously escorted the deities from the chariots into the Adapa Mandap, was overseen by key dignitaries including Odisha Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan, Deputy CM Pravati Parida, and Health and Transport Ministers Mukesh Mahaling and Bibhuti Bhushan Jena.
Adding to the spiritual aura, devotees looked forward to receiving Adapa Abhada, the sacred prasad offered during Lord Jagannath’s stay at Gundicha Temple. It is deeply believed that this offering brings solace to ancestral souls when partaken during Brahmin feasts.
Puri SP Pinak Mishra stated that senior officers had been deployed throughout the temple to ensure seamless darshan experiences, while ongoing coordination with servitors was in place to preempt any ritual disruptions.
Held as part of the Lord’s symbolic visit to his aunt’s abode, Adapa Darshan continues to be a magnet for spiritual seekers, reinforcing Puri’s position as a sanctum of faith and cultural heritage.
