Bhubaneswar, June 24 (UNI) Odisha is steadily emerging as a leading state in Eastern India’s healthcare sector, thanks to focused planning, good governance, and increased investment, Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati today said.

Speaking at the Times Health Icons–Odisha 2025 ceremony in Bhubaneswar, the Governor praised the selfless service of doctors and healthcare workers, stating that they are the real heroes of the nation, working day and night to heal others, often at great personal risk.

Recalling the COVID-19 pandemic, Kambhampati lauded their courage and tireless efforts while working long hours in PPE kits to save lives.

He also highlighted their key role in spreading health awareness, conducting vaccination drives, providing maternal care, and delivering health education.

Dr Kambhampati said the government is committed to strengthening public health.

He noted the increase in the state’s health budget, the establishment of new medical colleges at Jajpur, Phulbani, and Talcher, and the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat scheme for universal health coverage.

The Governor called for continued efforts to address challenges such as the rise in diseases, health disparities, and the impact of climate change on public health.
