Bhubaneswar, June 18(OT Webdesk): A wave of anger swept through Odisha’s capital today as Congress leaders, along with members of the Youth and Student Congress, held a massive protest outside Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi’s residence.
The demonstration was spurred by the recent alleged gang rape of a 20-year-old woman at Gopalpur Beach, which has ignited widespread public outrage.
Protesters raised slogans and displayed placards condemning the government’s failure to ensure women’s safety.
“This horrifying act underscores the administration’s negligence in protecting basic rights,” stated a Congress spokesperson.
The party demanded swift justice for the victim, stringent punishment for the accused, and urgent improvements in women’s security infrastructure.
Reacting to the public uproar, CM Majhi called the incident “utterly inhumane” and vowed decisive action.
“Justice will be served without delay, and we will bolster safety mechanisms across the state,” he assured in a statement.
With an ongoing investigation by the Odisha Police, opposition voices have grown louder, questioning the state’s preparedness to handle crimes against women.
As civic unrest simmers, the spotlight remains firmly on the administration’s next move.
