Domestic violence incident Odisha

Balasore, June 17 (OT Webdesk): In a tragic incident in Dahamunda village under Khairapipal Panchayat of Odisha’s Balasore district, a domestic dispute turned deadly after a man allegedly attacked his wife and five-year-old son with a sharp weapon before reportedly taking his own life.

The accused, identified as Paltu Jena, allegedly used a tangia (a traditional axe) to assault his family members on Monday. The grievously injured woman and child were rushed to Balasore District Headquarters Hospital and later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack due to the severity of their wounds.

As the community reeled from the shock, authorities launched a search for Paltu, who had fled after the attack. On Tuesday morning, local residents spotted a body floating near the Subarnarekha River. Police and fire brigade officials retrieved the body, which was later identified as that of Paltu Jena. Initial assessments suggest he may have died by suicide.

The couple has two sons, aged five and two. The motive behind the violent outburst is believed to be a domestic quarrel, though investigations are ongoing.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, prompting widespread concern over rising instances of domestic violence.
