Sukma, Chhattisgarh ( OT Webdesk) – A deadly Maoist attack has shaken Sukma district just ahead of the CPI (Maoist) Bharat Bandh scheduled for June 10.
A pressure-activated improvised explosive device (IED) planted by Maoists detonated, killing Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Akash Rao Giripunje and critically injuring two other officers.
The explosion occurred near Dondra village on the Konta–Errabore road, striking a security patrol unit. ASP Giripunje succumbed to fatal injuries, while the injured officers were rushed to a medical facility for urgent treatment.
Authorities have condemned the attack, reaffirming their commitment to counter-insurgency operations in the Bastar region, a Maoist stronghold.
Security forces have intensified patrolling and surveillance, aiming to prevent further violence ahead of the nationwide shutdown called by Maoist groups.
This incident underscores the persistent security challenges faced in the conflict-prone areas of Chhattisgarh, reigniting concerns about safety and strategic responses to insurgent activities.
