White Tigress Mousumi Welcomes Two Cubs at Nandankanan Zoo

White tigress Mousumi cubs

Bhubaneswar, June 8, ( OT Webdesk) – In a delightful development for wildlife conservation, white tigress Mousumi has given birth to two healthy cubs at Nandankanan Zoological Park.

The cubs were delivered on June 7, with the first arriving at 9:15 PM and the second at 11:03 PM in Enclosure 28 B.

According to initial observations, one cub resembles Mousumi with a white coat, while the other has a typical orange colouration.

Their sex remains undetermined as they continue to receive maternal care.

Zoo authorities are closely monitoring the mother and cubs to ensure their health and assess maternal behaviour.

The birth follows Mousumi’s successful mating with a normal-colored tiger, Rajesh, on February 27-28, marking her second litter.

Both parents are native to Nandankanan—Mousumi, born in 2016 to Manish and Sneha, and Rajesh, born in 2018 to Roshan and Bijaya.

With these latest arrivals, the zoo’s total tiger count stands at 29, including 19 normal-colored tigers, six white tigers, and four melanistic tigers.

This milestone reinforces Nandankanan’s commitment to conservation breeding and endangered species preservation, further enhancing India’s efforts in wildlife protection.
