Phulbani, ( OT Webdesk): In a landmark move for healthcare in Odisha, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi inaugurated the much-anticipated Kandhamal Medical College along with a 650-bed hospital in Phulbani today.

This initiative marks a significant step toward improving medical education and healthcare accessibility for residents of Kandhamal and surrounding districts.

The new medical college, equipped with 100 MBBS seats, is expected to benefit aspiring medical students while addressing the growing demand for quality healthcare services.

The hospital will cater to Kandhamal as well as Nayagarh, Boudh, and Kalahandi, ensuring better medical attention for thousands of people.

During the event, CM Majhi also launched 10 key development projects worth ₹750 crore, ranging from mega water supply schemes to road infrastructure enhancements and tourism development initiatives.

Special attention has been given to the tourism sector, with ₹18 crore approved for Daringbadi tourism projects and an additional ₹4.5 crore allocated for Putudi waterfall development.

Reaffirming the state’s commitment to affordable healthcare, Majhi emphasised Odisha’s integration into Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, providing free medical services to over 3.5 crore citizens through state-supported health initiatives.

Present at the inauguration were Health Minister Dr. Mukesh Mahaling, Kandhamal MP Sukanta Kumar Panigrahi, and Phulbani MLA Um Charan Mallick, who lauded the government’s efforts in strengthening healthcare infrastructure.

The launch of these projects is expected to bolster employment, promote medical research, and drive economic growth, solidifying Kandhamal’s position as a hub for education, healthcare, and tourism in Odisha.
