Puri, May 16, 2025 – A gruesome murder at Masani Chandi Square, under Baseli Sahi police station jurisdiction, has shaken the local community. The victim, Kuna Behera (45), the secretary of the Masani Chandi Committee, was brutally attacked and killed in his residence on Thursday night.
The accused, identified as Lipun Bhoi, surrendered to the police shortly after committing the crime. According to reports, the killing stemmed from a heated dispute over stolen property from the Masani Chandi Peeth. Two days prior, Kuna had caught Lipun’s father, Bishnu Bhoi, allegedly stealing offerings. In response, he confronted Bishnu and reprimanded him, warning him against repeating such acts.
This confrontation did not sit well with Bishnu’s sons, Lipun and Sipun. They visited Kuna’s home later that night to question him about the incident. A verbal altercation escalated into violence when Kuna reportedly struck Lipun during the dispute. Infuriated, Lipun retaliated by attacking Kuna with a weapon, inflicting severe injuries that led to his death due to excessive bleeding.
Following the murder, Lipun surrendered at the police station, revealing the details of the crime. His injuries from the altercation led the police to provide medical treatment before taking him into custody. His father, Bishnu, has also been detained as investigations unfold to determine if there were any other individuals involved.
A police forensic team has visited the crime scene to collect evidence. Three weapons suspected to be involved in the attack were seized from the location. Kuna’s body has been sent to the district headquarters hospital for autopsy.
The local community remains in shock over the incident, with authorities working diligently to ensure justice is served.
