Odisha Police Bolsters Security Measures for Smooth Conduct of the Grand Festival
(OT Webdesk)With the much-anticipated Rath Jatra of Lord Jagannath set to take place on June 27, the Odisha Police has heightened security measures to ensure a smooth and safe festival.
Director General of Police (DGP) Yogesh Bahadur Khurania visited Puri to review arrangements, focusing on crowd control, traffic management, and emergency response plans.
As part of the security overhaul, the riot-control vehicle ‘Vajra’ was introduced for the protection of the historic 12th-century Jagannath Temple. The DGP personally inspected the vehicle before its deployment. Additionally, eight platoons of police personnel have been stationed around the shrine to manage the large influx of devotees expected at the event.
Senior police officials convened in Puri for a strategic security meeting, discussing surveillance enhancements via CCTV monitoring, coordination with rapid response teams, and public safety protocols. Special attention is being given to marine police stations and lifeguard deployments along the coastline to safeguard pilgrims near the beach.
The Odisha Police, in its recent communication, emphasized the importance of maintaining existing security protocols despite ongoing diplomatic developments in India’s defense landscape. The precautions are in place following Operation Sindoor, which was executed in response to national security concerns.
In light of the increasing footfall expected at the festival, authorities are ensuring orderly crowd movement, dignitary security, and safe chariot pulling during the sacred event. Police forces remain on high alert as they work diligently to create a secure environment for devotees attending one of India’s most iconic religious gatherings.
