Congress MP Manish Tewari Rebukes Trump’s Remarks on Kashmir Conflict

Manish Tewari rebukes Trump's Kashmir remarks

New Delhi  (OT Webdesk)– Congress MP Manish Tewari has strongly refuted former US President Donald Trump’s recent comments on the Kashmir dispute, calling for an informed understanding of the region’s history.

Trump’s assertion that the conflict has persisted for “a thousand years” and his offer to mediate between India and Pakistan sparked sharp criticism from Indian political circles.

Responding on social media platform X, Tewari emphasised that the Kashmir conflict is not an age-old dispute, but rather one that began in 1947 when Pakistan invaded the princely state of Jammu & Kashmir.

He reiterated that the territory was formally ceded to India by Maharaja Hari Singh, reinforcing India’s stance that Kashmir is an internal matter.

Tewari’s remarks highlight India’s diplomatic position on the issue, emphasising the historical and legal basis of Jammu and Kashmir’s integration into India.

His comments also serve as a reminder of India’s rejection of external mediation efforts in the region’s affairs.

Trump’s remarks have reignited discussions on international perspectives regarding Kashmir, with Indian officials maintaining that the region’s status is a sovereign matter that requires no foreign intervention
