Odisha Braces for Fierce Thunderstorms: IMD Warns of Heavy Rain & Gusty Winds

Odisha rain alert June 2025

Bhubaneswar (OT Webdesk): Odisha is bracing for another round of turbulent weather as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for multiple districts ahead of an impending Nor’wester thunderstorm.

High-speed winds, intense lightning, and heavy rainfall are expected to impact Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, and Bhadrak districts, with effects lasting until 8:30 AM tomorrow.

This warning follows the severe Nor’wester storm that battered Bhubaneswar and Cuttack yesterday, disrupting traffic, uprooting trees, damaging power lines, and leaving several areas in darkness. Eyewitnesses reported strong gusts and sheets of rain, which caused chaos during the evening rush hour.

Authorities have urged residents to stay indoors, avoid sheltering under trees, and unplug sensitive electronic devices to prevent electrical hazards. Emergency response teams are on high alert, with the Special Relief Commissioner’s office coordinating efforts to minimize damage and ensure swift assistance.

With Nor’wester storms becoming a recurring challenge, officials emphasize the need for heightened disaster preparedness to protect lives and property. Stay tuned for further updates as the situation unfolds.
