Ritual Reverence: Puri Srimandir Suspends Darshan for Paita Lagi Ceremony

Paita Lagi ritual

Devotees visiting the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri, Odisha, will face a temporary halt on darshan of the deities tomorrow, April 21. The temple administration announced that the viewing of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra will be suspended from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM due to the sacred Paita Lagi ritual.

The Paita Lagi ceremony, observed during Vaishakh Krishna Ashtami, is an important tradition where the deities are adorned with special silk cloth treated with sandalwood paste. The ritual includes offerings of rice, dal, vegetable curries, and cakes. It is performed by Daitapati servitors and underscores the temple’s cultural and spiritual heritage.

The temple authorities have requested devotees to respect the sanctity of the ritual and plan their visits accordingly. Darshan will resume after 10:00 PM, ensuring devotees can once again pay homage to the sibling deities
