Nabrangpur: The only woman in the district who drives an auto to support her ailing parents and raise her daughter. After being thrown out of her husband’s house, she didn’t break down but instead worked hard to become self-sufficient and support her family. Her story has become an inspiration to others.A husband-abandoned woman, “Lakshmi Sinha”, supports herself without being a burden on others and also provides for her child’s and ailing parents’ needs.
The story of Lakshmi Sinha from Yunapani village in the Nabarangpur district is no less than a movie. She got married to a youth in Gariaband, Chhattisgarh, 6 years ago and gave birth to a baby girl. However, their marital life was short-lived as her husband threw her out of the house after a fight, refusing to keep her by his side. From that day on, Lakshmi returned to her parents’ house with her infant daughter.
Lakshmi’s parents, who are ill, couldn’t provide a home to live in and food to eat for her and her daughter. So, Lakshmi worked as a laborer and later learned to drive an auto, earning Rs 2,000 per month. Despite the challenges, she managed to support her family. She mortgaged 50 cents of land and took a loan to buy an electric auto, which enabled her to earn and provide food for her family. Despite this, she still lives in a Panchayat stall due to not having her own home. After her divorce, Lakshmi Sinha’s determination to stand on her own feet has overcome the challenging circumstances. Her parents weren’t financially stable, and she,e being their only daughter, had to take on the responsibility of supporting them. Lakshmi, determined to live with dignity and support her parents, mortgaged their agricultural land to take a loan and bought an electric auto. She uses it to transport children to school, patients to medical facilities, and she also runs a small shop to support her family. Due to not having her own home, Lakshmi is residing in a panchayat stall on rent. She has requested the government for a house to live in, a ration card, and support for her daughter’s education.
Lakshmi’s determination to become self-reliant despite the challenges she faces as a woman in a remote area of Nabarangpur district is truly inspiring. Her story serves as a beacon of hope for women in similar situations, showcasing the power of resilience and determination in overcoming adversity. By driving an auto and supporting her family, Lakshmi is breaking stereotypes and paving the way for others to follow in her footsteps. Her courage and perseverance are a testament to the strength of women in the face of adversity.
After getting to know about Lakshmi’s situation, the Block Development Officer, Sukanta Kumar Patnaik, has said that the government will provide her with whatever facilities are available.
