The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported that a low-pressure area over the southwest and west-central Bay of Bengal has strengthened into a well-marked low-pressure system.
The development, recorded at 08:30 IST on April 8, has raised concerns about potential weather impacts on coastal states like Odisha.
Though no cyclone alert has been issued so far, experts hint at the possibility of the system evolving into a cyclonic storm. The weather office predicts that the system will track north-northwestward over the Bay of Bengal for the next 24 hours, maintaining its intensity. It is expected to recurve north-northeastward, subsequently weakening over the central Bay of Bengal within the following 24 hours.
This intensification is anticipated to result in increased rainfall across Odisha in the coming days. Residents are advised to stay updated on weather forecasts as precautionary measures may be necessary depending on further developments.
