Jharsuguda.(Orissa Today) Mar 2: Jharsuguda district was awarded as the Best Advanced District in Hockey during the annual general meeting of Hockey Association Odisha, held at the Bhubaneswar Hockey Stadium today.
The meeting, presided over by Padma Shri Dilip Tirkey, President of Hockey Association Odisha, was attended by Deputy Director of the State Sports Department Nalini Kumar Das as the guest of honor. Executive Secretary Amit Kumar Naik and senior members of the Odisha Olympic Association were also present. Representatives from 30 district hockey associations and 12 other sports organizations participated in the event.
During the meeting, Vice President of Hockey Odisha, Jeevan Mohanty, introduced the guests. Discussions focused on the development of hockey in various districts, with an emphasis on Jharsuguda’s significant progress in the sport. A survey conducted by Hockey Odisha highlighted Jharsuguda’s consistent dedication and contribution to the game, leading to its recognition as the Best Advanced District in Hockey.
In acknowledgment of their efforts, Jharsuguda District Hockey Association’s Vice President Jeevan Mohanty, Secretary Ashwini Pandey, and Rina Rashmi Tirkey were received with an incentive check of ₹50,000.
The meeting also addressed key agenda items, including the creation of new positions, approval of hockey competitions, and strategies for further promotion of the sport in Odisha. Representatives from various districts shared their insights on improving hockey infrastructure and training facilities.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Hockey Odisha Treasurer PK Mohanty.
