Bhubaneswar, Feb 27: The high-level committee investigating the death of Nepali student Prakriti Lamsal and the subsequent chaos at KIIT University recorded statements from six more university officials on Thursday.
Among those who appeared before the committee at the State Guest House in Bhubaneswar at 10:30 am were Chief Proctor PK Pattnaik, Senior Hostel Superintendent Sanhita Mishra, and Assistant Director Smarika Pati. Additionally, IC head Ipsita Satapathy, administrative officer Sidharth Ray, and another university official also deposed before the panel.
The Odisha Higher Education Department had earlier served notices to these officials on Tuesday, instructing them to cooperate with the fact-finding investigation. This development follows the interrogation of KIIT founder Achyuta Samanta, who was questioned for two and a half hours. The university’s Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, and two suspended female staff members had also recorded their statements before the committee, chaired by the Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) of the Odisha Home Department.
Prakriti Lamsal, a third-year B.Tech student at KIIT University, was found dead in her hostel room on February 16. Preliminary reports suggest she was a victim of harassment and blackmail by her ex-boyfriend, triggering widespread protests and demands for justice.
