SUV overturns in Odisha, killing cyclist and injuring 11 Class X students

Bhubaneswar, Feb 21: A tragic accident occurred in Odisha’s Kendrapara district on Friday morning when an SUV carrying Class X students overturned after hitting a cyclist near Krushnanagar Chhak under Talchua Marine police limits.
The deceased, identified as Subrat Mandal, died on the spot, while 11 students sustained injuries and were rushed to a hospital in Talchua for treatment.
According to sources, the accident took place when students of Vivekananda High School, Baghamari, were traveling to their matric examination center at Naga Narayan High School, Khamara Sahi. While en route, the vehicle struck the cyclist and subsequently lost control, veering into a roadside canal before overturning.
Following the accident, tension gripped the area as enraged locals gheraoed the police when they attempted to arrest the SUV driver.
Among the injured, one girl student’s condition is reported to be critical. Despite the incident, some students were later allowed to appear for their examination.
The mishap occurred on the first day of the annual matriculation examination conducted by the Board of Secondary Education, Odisha.
