CBI searches residence of Sambalpur University professor in NAAC bribery case

Bhubaneswar,(Orissa Today) Feb 4: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday conducted searches at the residence of Bulu Maharana, a professor at Odisha’s Sambalpur University, in connection with the ongoing National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) bribery case.
Maharana, who was among ten individuals arrested in the case, is accused of accepting bribes to influence accreditation ratings for an educational institution.
Sources said a team of CBI officials visited Maharana’s official residence at Jyoti Vihar in Sambalpur and carried out a thorough investigation. Earlier, the agency had arrested him and sealed his house as part of the probe. The latest search aimed to gather additional evidence related to the bribery scandal.
Maharana, a faculty member in the Library Science department, was part of a six-member NAAC inspection team that had assessed an educational institution in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh. Investigators allege that bribes, including cash, gold, mobile phones, and laptops, were given to the team to secure an A++ accreditation.
The CBI has so far arrested ten persons in the case and conducted searches across multiple locations in India, uncovering crucial documents and evidence. Authorities are continuing their investigation to identify other individuals involved in the bribery network.
