Bhubaneswar,(Orissa Today) Feb 1: Around 60 devotees from Odisha were safely rescued after a boat carrying them collided with another vessel near the Man Mandir Ghat in Varanasi. The incident, which occurred on the Ganga River, caused panic among the passengers, but swift action by rescue teams prevented a major tragedy.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi assured that all the devotees were safe due to the prompt response of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the local administration, and the Uttar Pradesh government. In a post on X, Majhi expressed gratitude to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for leading the swift rescue operation.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also confirmed that all passengers were unharmed. He spoke with Uttar Pradesh officials to ensure the safety of the devotees.
“After learning about the boat collision at Man Mandir Ghat, I immediately contacted the UP government and local authorities. Their quick action, along with the support of NDRF and police, averted a disaster,” Pradhan stated on X.
The rescued passengers underwent health check-ups, and no injuries were reported. Authorities have advised caution for future boat operations on the river.
