Bhubaneswar, Jan 10: In a tragic incident, four migrant workers from Odisha, including two women, lost their lives, and 17 others sustained serious injuries when the bus they were traveling in collided with a stationary truck on the Suryapet-Khammam highway in Telangana.
The accident occurred in the early hours of Friday near Ailapur village in Chivvemla mandal, Suryapet district.
The ill-fated bus was carrying around 32 passengers, all migrant workers from Sinapali block in Odisha’s Nuapada district, heading to Hyderabad for work. The truck, loaded with sand, was parked on the roadside when the bus rammed into it. Preliminary investigations suggest that a tyre burst may have caused the accident.
Emergency responders rushed the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment, while authorities are working to identify the deceased.
This incident highlights the challenges faced by migrant workers during long-distance travel. Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident, with further updates.
