Six arrested in Malkangiri for alleged witchcraft activities during religious ceremony

Bhubaneswar, Jan 6: In a disturbing incident, six individuals from Chhattisgarh were arrested in Odisha’s Malkangiri district for their alleged involvement in witchcraft activities disguised as a religious ceremony. The arrests took place in Chitapari-4 village, falling under the jurisdiction of the Orkel police station, which is known for its tribal population.
Local authorities had granted permission for a three-day religious ceremony in the village. However, on the second day of the event, the accused reportedly engaged in witchcraft practices under the guise of religious rituals.
Upon receiving information about these activities, the Orkel police took swift action by forming a special team to investigate the situation. The police raided the site and discovered the accused performing witchcraft using a cot. During the rituals, they had also accused an elderly woman of being a witch, compelling her to leave the village.
The police intervened, rescuing the elderly woman and apprehending the six alleged sorcerers. They seized various items associated with the witchcraft rituals, including the cot and a vehicle used by the accused. The individuals have been presented before a local court, and further investigations are underway to uncover more details regarding this case.
