Bhubaneswar, Dec 19: The body of a girl student was discovered hanging in the bathroom of the Indravati Students Hostel at Maa Manikeshwari University in Bhawanipatna, Kalahandi district, Odisha, on Thursday.
The deceased, a first-year Plus II student, was originally from Birikot village in the Thuamul Rampur block of the district.
According to sources, the student entered the bathroom in the morning and failed to respond after an unusually long time. Concerned classmates knocked on the door and called out to her but received no reply. Alarmed by the situation, they reported the incident to the hostel authorities, who then notified the police.
A police team quickly arrived at the scene, where they found the body and promptly sent it for a post-mortem examination. Authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident. While initial suspicions indicate that the student may have died by suicide, the specific circumstances and reasons behind her tragic decision are still being investigated.
This heartbreaking incident has raised concerns about the mental health and well-being of students in the university, prompting discussions on the need for greater support systems within educational institutions.
