Odisha Vigilance arrests Kamakhyanagar Sub-Collector for disproportionate assets

Bhubaneswar,(Orissa today), Nov 19: Odisha Vigilance officials arrested Kamakhyanagar (Dhenkanal district) sub-collector Narayan Nayak, a Class-I officer, on Tuesday for allegedly possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
Following searches at multiple locations across Khurda, Dhenkanal, Bhadrak, and Mayurbhanj districts, Vigilance officials discovered extensive wealth, including four multi-storey buildings, 14 high-value plots, bank, insurance, and postal deposits amounting to Rs 34.57 lakh, Rs 1.48 lakh in cash, and 366 grams of gold.
Notably, among the seized properties were an under-construction triple-storey building and a single-storey building in Jharpada, Bhubaneswar, along with seven plots in the city. The Vigilance also found a three-storey building at Kuansa and a two-storey building at Gelpur in Bhadrak, along with six more plots in Bhadrak and one in Pipili, Puri. The registered sale deed value of the properties totals Rs 1.4 crore, though the actual market value is believed to be higher, with possible undervaluation during registration under suspicion.
Additionally, a two-wheeler and household articles worth around Rs 10 lakh were also seized. After a thorough search and inquiry, it was determined that Nayak owned assets exceeding 130% of his known income, and he was unable to provide satisfactory explanations for the wealth.
