Bhubaneswar, (Orissa Today) July 8: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rain in isolated places across Koraput, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Kandhamal, and Gajapati districts of Odisha for Monday.
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are expected in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati districts. Additionally, light to moderate rain or thundershowers may occur in many areas of South Odisha and a few places in North Odisha.
The forecast for Puri indicates a partly cloudy sky with the possibility of light rain until 5 PM. Bhubaneswar is expected to experience cloudy skies with occasional spells of rain or thundershowers.
Rainfall intensity is anticipated to decrease across the state thereafter, though light to moderate rain or thundershowers may persist in many areas until July 14.
The midday bulletin also highlighted a cyclonic circulation over westcentral Bay of Bengal and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal off the north Andhra Pradesh coast. IMD’s extended forecast for the period from July 5 to 11 and July 12 to 18 suggested the potential formation of two low-pressure systems over the Bay of Bengal.
There is a moderate likelihood of a cyclonic circulation or low-pressure area forming over westcentral and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal with a north-westward movement between July 7 and 11. A lower probability exists for the formation of another low-pressure area over westcentral Bay of Bengal in the latter half of the second week, after July 13.
