Delhi Police arrest three from Odisha in Rs 1.5 crore burglary case

Bhubaneswar, (Orissa Today), June 18: Delhi Police have apprehended three individuals from Odisha’s Soro region in connection with a burglary at the residence of a journalist in the national capital.

Among those arrested, two hail from Raghunathpur village under Soro police jurisdiction, while the third is from Machada village under Khaira police limits in Balasore district.

Sources indicate that the trio allegedly absconded with gold and diamond jewelry valued at Rs 1.5 crore from the home of journalist Sidharth Gautam Mohanty in New Friends Colony, Delhi, last month. One of the suspects, Madan Mohan Das of Raghunathpur village, was employed at the journalist’s residence.

Acting on a complaint filed by the journalist, Delhi Police conducted operations in Soro, culminating in the arrest of the suspects after a 13-day pursuit. Authorities also confiscated Rs 4 lakh in cash along with gold and diamond jewelry estimated to be worth around Rs 78 lakh from the apprehended individuals. Reports suggest that the accused had sold some of the stolen items to individuals in Nilagiri and Basudevpur.
