Bhubaneswar, (Orissa Today), May 18: A police constable was discovered deceased under mysterious circumstances in a hotel room in Balangir on Friday. Identified as Shankarbhanu Behera, he served as a constable in the Sonepur Reserve Police.
According to reports, Behera had traveled from Sonepur to Balangir in his car on May 11 but did not return home as expected. Subsequently, he was found deceased, with his hands and legs bound, inside a hotel room near Balangir Railway Station.
Upon receiving the notification, the Balangir Town police promptly arrived at the scene and initiated an investigation into the incident. Behera’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
Authorities suspect foul play, speculating that Behera may have been killed by someone within the confines of the hotel room. Sources indicate that the room was reserved by Vineet Sharma from Dhanbad, Jharkhand, who has since gone missing. It is suspected that Sharma may have perpetrated Behera’s demise after restraining him in the hotel room.
While the exact motive behind the suspected murder remains unclear, there is speculation suggesting a potential connection to the ganja trade.
